Life happens….even to the Christian man and/or woman. So, how do you respond when life begins to throw curveballs into the tapestry of your life?
Like many of us, you may kick into full gear and attempt to use every ounce of creativity that you have to solve your problems and bring an end to your distress.
However, what I have learned over the years is that by attempting to solve your own problems, you create a cycle of worry and anxiety that will eventually spiral out of control if you do not learn how to apply the principles of the kingdom of God.
I want to share with you 5 scriptures that you can use to defeat worry and anxiety in your life and begin living victoriously through God’s kingdom principles:
I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth!
He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber.
- Look to God for your help. Anxiety and worry is the result of looking inward for help. When you begin to trust in your own strength, you set yourself up for failure. There are many things in life that you just cannot handle on your own and God never intended for you to handle. Worry and anxiety cannot thrive in your life if you make a conscious decision to stop trusting in self and start looking up to God.
That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?
2. Know your value.
Anxiety and worry enter in when you doubt your position with God. When you know that you are loved and that your Heavenly Father only wants to see you blessed, you will not worry so much about the basic aspects of life. God is going to take care of you because He loves you. Your lack of perfection is not going to make God stop loving you and withhold anything from you. Worry and anxiety are the result of not understanding just how valuable you are to God. god loves you with an everlasting love, and He is a good Father who watches over His children.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
3. Submit to God’s wisdom.
This is one of my favorite scriptures that I recite to myself often. It is not easy to submit your understanding to the wisdom of God. When you attempt to operate in life based on your own finite understanding, you are going to always run into problems. God understands and knows everything concerning your life and everything that affects it. He sees many things that you cannot see and that’s why it’s so important to submit your ways to His wisdom. Your way is only going to lead to more worry and anxiety because you can only see what’s right in front of you. God knows exactly how to get you where you need to be so it’s best to submit to Him.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
4. Pray about everything.
Worry and anxiety come when you just sit and try to figure things out on your own. The key to being free from worry and anxiety is to pray about everything. Nothing is too big or too small for prayer. The beautiful thing about prayer is that releases the peace of God over your heart and mind. No peace will come until you submit all our worries to God in prayer. Prayer chases away the worry and anxiety because peace and worry cannot occupy the same space. In the presence of the Lord, there is fullness of joy. (Psalm 16:11)
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.
5. Trade your burdens for God’s burden.
If you have not discovered it yet, your burdens will weigh you down if you carry them long enough. God wants to give you rest from worrying about and carrying your burdens around. He wants to make a trade with you that will make your yoke easy and your burden light. Life is still going to happen, but you can choose to rest in God’s will for your life instead of attempting to carry every burden that comes your way. Release your burdens to God, and you will be free from worry and find rest for your soul.
